Therapies

Physiotherapy

Maintaining full mobility can be a challenge for many people with neurological conditions, particularly where there are also issues with pain and spasticity. We offer regular physiotherapy sessions, for both individuals and groups, to help people maintain muscle strength and mobility through tailored exercise programmes, in our purpose-built gym.

Oxygen Treatment

Regular oxygen treatment can help to relieve a number of the most common symptoms of MS and other neurological conditions.  Significant benefits have been seen in pain management, continence control, balance, circulation, sensory perception and optic neuritis, as well as a marked improvement in fatigue levels for many people.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used as a treatment for MS in the UK since the 1970s and has been shown to stabilise and improve many symptoms associated with the disease. Ongoing research and modern acupuncture techniques continue to yield further improvements, which are well documented.

Reflexology and Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a treatment using essential oils extracted from various parts of trees and plants. Massage is the most common form of administering the oils, simply because it is the most effective. In particular, aromatherapy and reflexology can be effective in alleviating aches and pains, relaxing muscles and reducing stress – all of which can help people in the management of their neurological symptoms.

Hypnotherapy

Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy (SFH) helps people take control of their thoughts and find solutions to a problem rather than focussing on the problem itself. SFH can help with a wide variety of issues, from anxiety and depression through to pain and addiction. In short, it can help with anything you perceive to be a problem or that is stopping you living your life the way you want. In addition, Reiki can be offered as part of these sessions.

Specialist Clinics

The Centre provides access to a variety of specialist clinics, both medical and advice-based. These include a spasticity clinic (referral only), Benefits Advice Service and Advocacy, MS Nurse Clinic, Bladder and Bowel Wellness Clinic, Beautician and Chiropodist.

Groups & Classes

As well as the group exercise classes which are led by our physiotherapists, we offer a range of group activities and classes which take place at various times throughout the year.
