Volunteer for us
Volunteering for the MS Therapy Centre is a fun and rewarding experience. It is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and it looks great on your CV too!

We have lots of opportunities to suit you, from meeting and greeting our members, supporting our fundraisers or admin team or helping to raise money and awareness where you live. You could even become trained to help operate our oxygen therapy unit.

Volunteer Counsellor

The role of the volunteer councillor is to ensure that the service provided by the Centre meets the needs of the Centre Members, their families and carers. This will be achieved by providing a safe and confidential counselling service that enables the client to discuss any difficulties that they might be experiencing, empowering them to reach a resolution and encouraging problem solving.  The counsellor will need to be able to adapt and work flexibly according to client needs.

Ideal Skills: It is expected that the counsellor would be a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) with a recognised professional qualification to Diploma level or equivalent and to abide by the BACP's Ethical Framework. The counsellor would need to provide evidence of regular and up-to-date safeguarding training and ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of this.

Duration/hours: 1 full day or 2 half days per week based at the Centre.

Volunteer Oxygen Treatment Chamber Operator

The role of the Operator is to help patients, some of whom are in wheelchairs or have limited mobility, into and out of our Oxygen chamber and run sessions from a control panel situated next to the chamber.  You will also be involved in booking appointments, completing notes and telling people about the benefits of the treatment.

Full training is provided and no volunteer will be left alone to run a session.

A key part of your role is to talk to members and their carers and provide support during sessions.  New members will need to be reassured about the sensations they may experience in the chamber, as well as being informed of how to speak to the operator if they experience any discomfort.
Ideal Skills: A willingness to learn but above all good people skills and a positive and friendly attitude.

Duration/hours: A session takes up to 90 minutes and there are five sessions per day (Mon-Fri).  Ideally a volunteer would be available for a full morning or afternoon, or a full day, in order to support a few sessions.  However, there are also opportunities for volunteers who are only able to spare a few hours a week.

Volunteer Fundraising Facilitator

To support Centre users and other volunteers who wish to fundraise for the charity.

The main duty of the role is to support Centre users and other volunteers who wish to fundraise for the charity. This will include giving advice, discussing ideas, helping to produce promotional materials and supporting events (e.g. Quiz nights, Fetes). You will work closely with the Fundraising team who will be on hand to train and advise you. Other duties may include providing administrative and marketing support to the fundraising team where necessary.

Ideal skills: Good IT skills, experience of marketing/promotion, an understanding of social media, strong people-skills, able to work using your own initiative, access to your own transport and a happy and positive attitude.

Duration / Hours: This will be a regular position. A day a week if possible.

Supermarket Collection Volunteer

Help us to raise fund for the Centre through bucket collections and bag-packs at local retail stores. You may also be asked to attend local fairs/fetes and other community events where necessary.

Ideal skills: Ability to travel in your local area, able to work using your own initiative, a happy and positive attitude, comfortable conversing with the public.

Duration / Hours: This is a casual position. Collections take place throughout the year on a variety of days. Hours will vary and will be agreed in advance with you.

Responsible to: Fundraising Department Where your role will be based: Supermarkets/Garden Centres/Events local to you.

Centre Befriender Volunteer

The West of England MS Therapy Centre needs a centre befriender to provide assistance daily at the centre.   The volunteer would be making teas and coffees, accompanying people who need assistance and generally checking people are comfortable and cared for.  We need a person who has empathy and a caring, can-do attitude.   The hours we are looking for are 10-2pm any day Monday - Friday.

Duration / Hours: This will be a regular position.  The hours we are looking for are approximately 10-2pm any day Monday - Friday.

Unfortunately we are unable to reimburse travel expenses to and from the Centre.


   
Volunteer Physiotherapy Admin Assistant

Supporting our busy Physiotherapy department.

Duties will include answering and returning phone calls, making and altering appointments for clients, inputting data on the computer, filing, photocopying and general computer work, researching of equipment for clients and assisting with weekly checking and cleaning of the physiotherapy equipment.

Ideal skills: Good IT skills, experience of working in an office environment, strong people-skills, able to work using your own initiative and a happy and positive attitude.

Duration / Hours: This will be a regular position, ideally for a few hours one or more times a week (except Thursdays)
